Doggos of GVT

By Sarah Mansheim

Development and Marketing Associate, GVT

When I interviewed here, I thought for certain I would not get the job. Why? Was it because I bombed my interview? That I had no relevant experience? All that may be true, but, No! It was because the Artistic Director's dog didn't like me!

Very famous book author Jack Canfield (Mr. Chicken Soup for the Soul himself) once said, "If your dog doesn't like someone, you probably shouldn't either."

I'd heard platitudes like that before on my Facebook and Pinterest feeds. I take them to heart. I went home after the interview with a heavy heart. I told my daughter, "I probably didn't get the job."

"Of course you did!" she retorted, ever my cheerleader.

"No!" I said. "The boss's dog doesn't like me."

"Oh. Well," she paused. "Do you have any other job leads?"

Somehow, the Artistic Director saw something in me her dog didn't, and she offered me the job. I was thrilled, and also determined to make friends with Sally, the Dog who Didn't Like Me. I arrived at my first day on the job full of pep, great ideas and a bag full of dog treats.

Little did I know that GVT is a Dog Friendly Workplace!

What Heaven on Earth was this?!

Well, let me tell you. Me and my lunch bag full of Beggin' Strips became a big hit. Within two days, I had Sally lying at my feet. As for the other dogs? They love me too! Or, at least, they love my snacks. (It doesn't matter to me. All I care about is that when doggos come to GVT, they immediately come bounding into my office. Just the way I like it.)

So, today, I'd like to introduce you to Sally, or Sally Jones or Sally O'Mally as I prefer to call her. The Dog who Didn't Like Me has become a dear friend of mine, one I look forward to seeing every day. She looks forward to seeing me too, as long as I have a treat.
